The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center is a private, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1974 to provide services tailored to the specific needs of seniors. Almost 50 years later, it is the longest standing senior service agency offering the most comprehensive resources for elders, their families and their caregivers. As the lead agency in Martin County serving seniors, their mission is to be the unparalleled resource of expertise, programming and support for seniors in Martin County. Their vision is to inspire a community that embraces, uplifts and encourages seniors to maintain lives of quality and purpose.
At the Kane Center, the Council provides programs in support of this mission, including Meals on Wheels, Kane Cuisine, an adult day program, memory enhancement, senior-focused primary medical care, care management, nutrition counseling, caregiver support and education. The Kane Center also functions as a multi-general community center offering a wide range of programs and activities for active adults including social groups, fitness classes, live entertainment, lifelong learning opportunities and much more. The Council directed Community Coach provides transportation and includes wheelchair-lift vehicles for the disabled and door-to-door assistance. All Medicaid transportation is scheduled through Community Coach.
The Log Cabin Senior Center, located in Jensen Beach, also provides classes, activities, and special events for active seniors.
In times of crisis or for everyday needs, 211 HelpLine is available to Martin County residents any time of the day or night. The caring staff at 211 provides crisis intervention, suicide prevention, assessment, information and referral to available community resources and services. 211’s Sunshine free daily telephone call program is also available to those over 60, the housebound or disabled who would like a friendly hello and to check on their wellbeing. Calls to 211 are free, confidential and available 24/7 by simply dialing 2-1-1.
